About:

Here lay selected works of Don 'Mavusana' Windrim, a visual artist now residing and practicing in London originally from South Africa, Johannesburg. He enjoys shooting documentary, editorial, events, portraiture and landscapes often with a candid feel. He is versed in capturing moving imagery and editing too. Upon graduating at the Market Photo Workshop advanced photography program 2011, he began working on his first serious on going body of work entitled “Write, write, Right, right!” in 2010 interrogating phobia of mobility within Johannesburg (Allegedly one of the most dangerous cities in the world), and was recived in public in 2011. A then a second body of work entitled Casting shadows, uncovering some entrails of a discarded but important part of apartheid history. This second year long project and body of work received in early 2012 entitled Casting shadows. These works where so controversial that they where receiving threats and stollen from the gallery after the opening night and his home in the same few hours along with all his equipment. His ambition towards meaningful work is testament to his ability to think critically and deliver striking imagery and dialogue. Mavusana is currently photographing in London and looking to expand his repertoire. His work endeavours to explore socio political subjects and corner culture. Interrogating relationships between Monikers, inanimate objects, space, human eccentricity and locality.
Don flourishes in new spaces, as throughout life he has had the opportunity or misfortune of living in many places, whether suburban, rural, city or deep forested areas, Attributing him with a keen understanding towards growing and adapting within new spaces and environments quickly. This may have influenced his work to often talk about access or open dialogue within areas or subjects that are somehow proverbially sanctioned.
